MRYC is happy to announce the creation of a 4 week session of Adult Learn to Sail Clinics. This 4 week session is geared towards members looking to learn some of the basic concepts of sailing.
Whether you're a new member looking to explore the opportunities to sail at MRYC or a longtime member looking to try something new. This is for you! No experience necessary.
Susan Mallows and Doug Brown have graciously offered to teach this course and share their years of experience.
Sailing 101 - July 19 and 26, August 2 and 9 - All classes will start at 6pm
Topics to be covered over 4 clinics:
• Introduction to the basic concepts of sailing
• Rigging (assembling) a boat (Sunfish) and basic sailing knots
• On water practice of steering, sailing position and tacking
• Sailing Upwind and Tacking
• Sailing Downwind and Gybing
• Capsizing and recovering
Each class will teach a new concept. Please plan to attend all 4 sessions to get the most out of it.
Here is what you need:
1. Life Jacket (Mandatory to bring and to wear)
2. A Sunfish sailboat owned or borrowed. A limited number of boats will be available if you do not have one.
You will be getting wet so please dress appropriately. You may want to bring a change of clothes. You will be REQUIRED to wear a life jacket while you are on the water.
